It’s my money. Why should I pay it back?”

It’s one of the first questions people ask about private family banking. In Episode 186, Seth Hicks and Vance Lowe explore why the answer matters long after the purchase is made.

Using a family car purchase as a starting point, they discuss the difference between a gift and a loan, the role of repayment, and what happens when a cash crunch interrupts the plan.

You’ll also hear their perspective on preserving principal, keeping capital available for future opportunities, and developing the habit of thinking like a banker.

In this episode:

  • Why ownership does not replace a repayment plan
  • The gift-versus-loan distinction
  • Reviewing payments when circumstances change
  • Replenishing capital for future needs
  • Questions to ask before applying a family banking strategy

Continue at https://privatebankingstrategies.com. Ask the website AI tool: “Why does repayment matter when my family provides the capital?” You can also explore the book Secrets the Banks Don’t Want You to Know and an exploratory conversation with Vance.

Educational discussion. Policy terms, costs, and individual circumstances matter. Family repayment arrangements do not override insurer loan terms. Tax treatment and creditor protection depend on applicable law and circumstances; non-guaranteed policy elements can change.

[00:00:21] Intro: Learn how to keep what you earn and use the velocity of money to create your own private banking system. Join us on this journey as we explore the secret strategies of the rich and political elite, and help you take total control of your financial security. Now, onto the show.

[00:00:37] Seth Hicks Esq.: Hello, and welcome to Private Banking Strategies podcast.

[00:00:40] Seth Hicks Esq.: I’m Vance Lowe and Seth Hicks. Vance, how are you today?

[00:00:42] Vance Lowe: I’m doing great today, Seth, thanks.

[00:00:44] Seth Hicks Esq.: We’ve been, uh, talking about some really good topics in how to utilize private banking with auto purchases, with various other investments, uses to deploy your capital and develop a cash flow stream [00:01:00] back into your banking system.

[00:01:02] Seth Hicks Esq.: Now, to the, the white belt in private banking, they will often ask, “This is my money. Why do I have to pay it back?” That’s the question people might often ask you, Vance, when they first hear about private banking. “My money, why would I pay this back? Why not use it and just move on?”

[00:01:19] Vance Lowe: I do. I didn’t tell you how many times I get this.

[00:01:23] Vance Lowe: And you know what? I would rather restate what they tell me so that they understand what they just said. I think we should do a title, either shorts or podcasts or whatever else, and the title should go, “To be or not to be a slave to the system.”

[00:01:39] Seth Hicks Esq.: Yes.

[00:01:40] Vance Lowe: That’s the real question here. Do you want to be a slave to the system like you are now?

[00:01:45] Vance Lowe: People don’t understand that. People don’t really realize how much of a slave they are. What is your solvency? Can you go more than 30 days, 60 days, or 90 days? If you can only go 90 days, you’re a slave to the system. You [00:02:00] have to go to work. You have to do all these things. You have to make these payments, okay?

[00:02:06] Vance Lowe: And then for someone to come in and say, “If it’s my money, why do I have to pay it back?” You’re just saying, “It’s my money, and it’s absolutely worthless, and it’s absolutely burning a hole in my pocket. And so I need to get rid of it as fast as I possibly can so that I can go to work again and do it over.

[00:02:24] Vance Lowe: Re-earn it, make everybody else a lot of money, just so I can turn around and burn it again.” Sadly, the herd mentality has got to that point.

[00:02:33] Seth Hicks Esq.: I think that in our car purchase discussions that we’ve had in the past few podcasts is a good way to evaluate this. When a family finances a car through its bank and they begin to implement that process, if they have a cash crunch or they’re, like I said, a white belt in private banking strategies, to use the martial arts concept, that borrower might think, “Things are tight.

[00:02:57] Seth Hicks Esq.: We own this bank. I don’t really need to pay back [00:03:00] the loan.” Is that a mindset that might creep in?

[00:03:02] Vance Lowe: It’s a mindset, but think about it, folks. There’s presidents of bank. There used to be banks out there that were owned by families and everything else. There’s a story out there, a lot of us have forgotten the savings and loan business.

[00:03:17] Vance Lowe: They were just like banks in essence, but that are no more, and that’s because they stole from themselves. They lent money out, and they didn’t get it back with interest. So no, you can’t. People are ignorant about money, and so they start saying these things. They come up with what they think should be proper or right, and it’s, has nothing to do with what money does or how it operates.

[00:03:41] Vance Lowe: We need to be educated in what money really is and how it functions for us to take advantage of it, or we’re slaves to the system. And by taking that education away from our schools, from kindergarten through master’s degree, we are now subject, we are ignorant how money [00:04:00] works, and the power is switched to the banks.

[00:04:02] Vance Lowe: Right. So getting the money back, everybody has heard true principles, but they don’t believe it. One is that you should never, ever spend principal. Rule number two, never, ever break rule number one. It’s that important. Warren Buffetts understand the flow and how money works, and they’re in the stratosphere of mega bucks, okay?

[00:04:26] Vance Lowe: Private families in the multi-millions and billions of dollars privately because they understand how money works. Right. If you want to get ahead, you’ve got to develop this banker’s mentality, and hopefully some of these ideas that we’re presenting to you will feed your imagination that maybe there’s something different.

[00:04:48] Vance Lowe: Maybe there’s something I don’t know about money that I should.

[00:04:51] Seth Hicks Esq.: Well, I think as we analyze this, it’s important to distinguish a gift from a loan. And when you begin to implement private banking [00:05:00] strategies, and if you have that white belt mentality of, “I own the bank, I don’t really need to make these payments,” that’s a gift.

[00:05:06] Seth Hicks Esq.: That’s not a banker’s mindset into recapturing the cash flow on the loan made. And so the benefit of being a private banker and restructuring loans or giving yourself a modification of the loan such that you can fit it within your earning capacity is one thing. But just not making payments, stealing the peas, as we say from Nelson Nash’s book, and not buying your own grocery store inventory becomes a theft and a gift from the bank.

[00:05:39] Seth Hicks Esq.: And we all know banks don’t just hand out money as gifts

[00:05:43] Vance Lowe: They do not

[00:05:44] Seth Hicks Esq.: Except when you open an account with them because they see the long-term value, all the fees they’re gonna make, all the opportunities for you to finance things through them. So they’ll give you 200 bucks when you open an account sometimes and know that for the next 20 years [00:06:00] they’re gonna make 200,000 off of you.

[00:06:02] Vance Lowe: So let me put out a truth right now for everybody, and this is simple, this is easy, and you need to take it to heart. Banks always get the money back Even on failed loans, they always get the money back because of collateral. So they put the money to work, they always get it back. If you find your strategy with money are at odds with the banks, you better wake up because the banks win every single time.

[00:06:31] Vance Lowe: We lose. Just look at your own history. Are you where you thought you would be five years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago? If not, nothing’s gonna change for the next five, 10, 15 years into the future unless you make a change. And during all that time, the banks are gonna get wealthier, bigger, and stronger with your money because you’re going to work producing it, you’re giving it away, and the banks are ending up with it.

[00:06:57] Vance Lowe: Why not adapt that strategy, so [00:07:00] simple, doesn’t change your lifestyle, and you become part of the bank, and you start making those profits and understanding how money works.

[00:07:08] Seth Hicks Esq.: It’s a mind shift that we address over and over, and we keep addressing it because it really is the crux of the matter. It’s the mindset of how to think like a banker, take the banking equation back into your financial transactions.

[00:07:25] Vance Lowe: It does. There’s another… Today I c- I can hardly get my mind gripped on it, the AI features out there. AI is taking over so many things, and you can find out so much about it. We’re starting to incorporate it, but the knowledge, I think, is there if people wanna find out about it and wanna dig in deep.

[00:07:46] Seth Hicks Esq.: On our website, we’ve got an AI tool, folks, that is very valuable tool, and we invite you to take a look at it at privatebankingstrategies.com.

[00:07:56] Seth Hicks Esq.: It’s privatebankingstrategies.com, and you can ask [00:08:00] questions like, “How can I establish a private family bank with this amount of resources?” Or, “If I have this situation and scenario, how would I use private banking to improve my wealth position over the next two years?” And our AI tool will act just like you’re structuring something with Vance and I and be able to outline content that we’ve produced and give you a roadmap, and that’s completely free to you folks, so we hope you’ll take advantage of that and go to privatebankingstrategies.com and use the AI tool that’s on the website to help you structure some intelligent outlines.

[00:08:40] Seth Hicks Esq.: And if that is resonating with you, you’ll have the opportunity also to schedule an exploratory call with Vance one-on-one and actually take a review of your financial numbers into our algorithmic system that tells you exactly a roadmap over eight years of how to apply your [00:09:00] cash flow, your earning into the private banking strategies and where you’ll be at the end of eight years.

[00:09:06] Vance Lowe: I couldn’t agree with you more. We’re trying to do everything we can. I have fallen in love with this strategy. I’ve gone to the ends of the world it seems like in trying to understand and learn the actual principle Because it works. All clients who come in and do this strategy win. They win big, they win every single time if they follow true money principles, once they understand what money really is, and it’s shocking.

[00:09:35] Vance Lowe: We all think we know something about money, and then to find out, oh, it isn’t about interest rates. What’s this volume rate of return? What does that even mean? What does velocity mean? What are all those things? We do have the answers for you, folks. I think it’s important that if you’re willing to know everything about money, question yourself, visit the website, see what we’ve got to offer you.

[00:09:57] Seth Hicks Esq.: When you start to begin to implement the [00:10:00] principles and operate the bank, you’re gonna see more opportunities in your financial environment, and ability to capture cash flow into your banking system. Because that banker’s mentality is all about cash flow systems, and building cash flow back into your family banking reservoir.

[00:10:19] Seth Hicks Esq.: So we started this conversation with to be or not to be a slave to the system. It’s my money, why pay it back? And I wanna ask the question, Vance, to you, once you’ve got that money back, if you don’t have opportunities that you can see, do you still just keep stacking up dry powder, and why?

[00:10:38] Vance Lowe: We practice the old style of banking.

[00:10:41] Vance Lowe: There’s a place to store money until we can put it to work that is the ideal investment. I think one time we, and we may even have the, what’s called the perfect investment podcast, where we list, I don’t know, 16, 23 perfect things that we would want to have in an ideal investment. [00:11:00] And America enjoyed that the first 100 years, and those still exist today.

[00:11:05] Vance Lowe: They beat the stock market, they’re tax-advantaged, they’re private, all kinds of benefits. That was a problem for me. Once I bought all of my personal debts, started expanding out to my extended family, purchasing debt because that’s a, a safe investment with huge returns, then where do I store the money? I put it in these contracts, and I enjoy guaranteed rates.

[00:11:30] Vance Lowe: I get profits every year. And according to inflation and the economy, these last… This, especially this last year, we enjoyed over a 9% return into our accounts that can’t be reversed. Every time money goes into these accounts, it’s not based on whether the market does this or the company does that. That’s money in your account that can never be reversed.

[00:11:55] Midroll: Did that story feel like it was about you? Do you feel like you are [00:12:00] generating a lot of revenue, but are not moving forward as fast as you would like? Do you feel you should be making more progress toward your financial goals? Do you feel stuck? Let us help you get unstuck. Are you ready to take action and get your own private bank?

[00:12:17] Midroll: Please visit us at www.privatebankingstrategies.com.

[00:12:25] Vance Lowe: But Seth, that reminds me, I wanna go back to a question since we started this, to be or not to be. If a family bank has financed a purchase, why does it matter whether they pay it back or not? What’s the difference? Let’s dissect that a little bit, because it involves principle again.

[00:12:43] Vance Lowe: What you’ve done is you’ve taken your principle and you’ve, you’ve purchased a car, or you’ve purchased a new kitchen or bathroom or something, or maybe some investment proper- or whatever, and you’ve put the money to work. That’s the difference. Whether you spend the money or are you putting it to work.

[00:12:59] Vance Lowe: The difference [00:13:00] is you put principle to work, and you get it back in payments. Since you control it, can you control the payments, Seth?

[00:13:06] Seth Hicks Esq.: You can structure your own payment structure, yes.

[00:13:09] Vance Lowe: If you have a hiccup one month, can you adjust that month?

[00:13:12] Seth Hicks Esq.: Sure.

[00:13:13] Vance Lowe: If you need to totally refinance that whole deal because income from job changed, are y- can you do that if you own the bank?

[00:13:22] Seth Hicks Esq.: Absolutely. You can modify the debt to fit your earning capacity in that time, and that’s unlike third-party centralized banks. That’s-

[00:13:31] Vance Lowe: Yeah, they won’t even talk to you, and that’ll ruin your credit. But with you being the family bank, this is where principle comes in, folks. You need to understand that if you wanna break away, if you wanna be independent and not be a slave to the system, understand how to use principle and get it back, and get multiple touches on a dollar.

[00:13:54] Vance Lowe: Volume of return is critical. The more money we put to work, in buying debt or putting it to [00:14:00] work and, and having an income coming off of that, the better off we’re gonna be. And it’s not about… Please don’t make the mistake, ’cause I think when we say stuff like this, Seth, everybody has their own interpretation, their own opinion.

[00:14:14] Vance Lowe: He means, “You know, I have a stock portfolio. I have 401s and I have IRAs, so I’m doing those.” No, you’re not. You’re putting your money to sleep, thinking that you’re putting it to work. Principle needs to be controlled by you, put to work by you, because you are the risk. You don’t want to give your money to someone else.

[00:14:36] Vance Lowe: Now, you put your money to sleep because you can’t use it yourself, and you’re subject to risk with those people. They can steal it. They can make a mistake. “Oh, sorry, your money’s gone, but you were at risk.” And when they do make a profit, do they end up giving you the most they can or the least they can get away with?

[00:14:58] Vance Lowe: I’m passionate about this, [00:15:00] folks. I know how money works. We know how money works. We know how to keep it safe. And to see and to watch a family go from slavery- Totally hooked into the system to total independency and privacy is what gets me up every morning when I’m willing to go forward

[00:15:19] Seth Hicks Esq.: Yeah, it, there, there is no comparable system because of the way the contracts are legally structured.

[00:15:25] Seth Hicks Esq.: And so all of the values that we’re describing, we have combined those and described them as the seven pillars of private banking strategies. And according, they are governed, life insurance contracts are governed by state law, and so each state has its own laws that govern life insurance contracts. And in many states they are completely asset protected, meaning all of the value and cash that you store in your life insurance contract is fully asset protected.

[00:15:58] Seth Hicks Esq.: Now When you go down [00:16:00] to Wells Fargo or wherever you bank, Bank of America, Chase, those are three of the largest, or even your credit union, and you deposit $100,000 in cash, $200,000 in cash, $500,000 in cash, you’re storing your cash value and assets in that bank, is it asset protected, Vance?

[00:16:21] Vance Lowe: No, it’s not.

[00:16:22] Seth Hicks Esq.: So if you have someone sues you or you have some type of liability or creditor issue, they can access your cash in those banks. Whereas the cash in your life insurance contract in many states is completely and 100% untouchable by law, so it cannot be taken. And for that reason alone, it’s the safest place to keep your money and store wealth.

[00:16:52] Seth Hicks Esq.: Not to mention the other seven pillars, which include that it grows and compounds tax-free- … once it’s inside the system. You have [00:17:00] financial privacy. Centralized banks, many times they report, air quotes, “suspicious transactions” or cash deposits or cash issues. There’s a… They’re, uh, effectively not your banker.

[00:17:14] Seth Hicks Esq.: They’re an agent of the government. And so for many people that are waking up in this century, financial privacy is very important. And so when you have the option and availability to keep your cash completely asset protected and being financially private in a life insurance contract, it’s 100 times far superior to centralized banking.

[00:17:38] Seth Hicks Esq.: So those three pillars of the seven pillars of private banking strategies alone are persuasive enough for most people to go, “Yeah, I need to store my cash in life insurance contracts.” And that’s just the protections that they offer, Vance. That’s not even addressing the banking issues that you’re teaching right now, the velocity of money, the guaranteed [00:18:00] compounding growth, the ability to have your dry powder there in your, in your private bank to guarantee your next purchase, to guarantee the financing of your next investment, or the legacy value.

[00:18:11] Seth Hicks Esq.: So that was a mouthful, but what do you think about what I said?

[00:18:14] Vance Lowe: This is… It’s an overview. What we’re pleading to our listeners is that if something resonates here, take the opportunity. You know, there’s three kind of people, Seth, and you’re probably tired of me, h- hearing it from me, but it’s true. It- True over and over again, all the time I’ve been in the professional world, there’s about a third of the people who make things happen.

[00:18:39] Vance Lowe: They hear something, they’re after something, they’re after additional education, but they’ll research it enough and then make a difference. They’ll actually pull the trigger. They’ll actually make a decision. They’ll make a change in their life, and they’re the ones that are prosperous. They’re the ones that are going up, and they’re the leaders a little bit.

[00:18:58] Vance Lowe: People watch them and [00:19:00] wanna mimic. Then there’s the second group, and that second group is those people that watch things happen. They’re ever-searching, and they’re ever getting in and listening and doing this and doing that, but they’re never doing. They’re never able to actually challenge themselves to make a change, and with that, we can’t, we can’t get to a point that changes our lives at all.

[00:19:27] Vance Lowe: So they’re ever-searching but never pulling the trigger. They’re never doing. And then there’s the third one, and I kinda laugh and I’m happy with that third group, but sadly, it’s the group that wonders, “What the heck happened?” Life’s gone by. They’re too busy sitting in front of their television watching their football game.

[00:19:48] Vance Lowe: They like their work, but they come home, have a beer or whatever else, and life is happy for them. They, they want… They don’t want to do anything more. They’re in their element. That’s the third group. [00:20:00] So which are you? Are you on that edge of being a person that makes things happen, or are you w- someone who watches things happen?

[00:20:09] Vance Lowe: Also, the biggest problem with the people who watch things happen is they a- analyze it to a point they get tired of it. Or then the next idea comes along and they drop that one and move to the next idea. “Oh, this sounds good. Maybe this is something I can do.” And they’re ever-changing, they’re ever-watching, but never doing.

[00:20:29] Seth Hicks Esq.: That’s, and that’s the, the difference with what successful people do, is that they take it to heart, they begin to implement the strategies. And it’s, it’s really not that hard, but you do have to follow the rule sets for banking. And that’s one of the best tools that I think that we offer, is your eight-year analysis for folks.

[00:20:47] Seth Hicks Esq.: And folks, if you wanna take this on a test drive and put in your particular financial income and expense numbers with Vance and learn how to implement private banking strategies [00:21:00] for you and your family, you can do that, and you can do that for free. You just go to our website at Private Banking Strategies Pod- and put your name and email, and you’ll get a book that Vance and I authored called Secrets the Banks Don’t Want You to Know.

[00:21:12] Seth Hicks Esq.: And along with that book, an audio and PDF version, you’ll have the opportunity to schedule an exploratory call with Vance, and ultimately get into a place where you can get an eight-year analysis of your particular numbers and finances that show you how to get out of debt if you’re in debt, or how to expand your investment portfolio, how to implement private banking strategies, how to capture the things that we talked about, the asset protection, tax-free growth, the financial privacy, the seven pillars.

[00:21:43] Seth Hicks Esq.: We will show you how to do that. Vance, w- what else would you add to that?

[00:21:47] Vance Lowe: I’d say amen to that. People, switch from spending your principal. Your principal is the money you bring home every single month. You should never, ever spend that. But everybody around you does, and you think you can’t [00:22:00] not spend it.

[00:22:00] Vance Lowe: But you can. Principal is to be used, not hoarded. It needs to be put to work. So we use it, but we get it back, and that’s all the difference it takes from you being financially independent, financially successful or not. So take the challenge, folks. Do whatever you can to improve yourself and get yourself to a point, “Hey, do I have to spend principal or not?”

[00:22:23] Seth Hicks Esq.: Thanks for joining us today, folks, on this podcast. We hope to see you on the next one. Bye for now.

[00:22:28] Vance Lowe: Bye-bye, folks.

[00:22:29] Outro: Did that story feel like it was about you? Do you feel you should be making more progress toward your financial goals? Do you feel stuck? Let us help you get unstuck. Are you ready to take action and get your own private bank?
